Great Steak

Preparation & Cooking Time: 5 min
Serves: 4


4 steaks (preferably New York Strip), 1" thick

2 cloves garlic minced or pressed

2 tbsp worcestershire sauce

2 tbsp balsamic vinegar

freshly ground pepper

2 tsp dijon mustard

2 tbsp soy sauce

2 tbsp olive oil


Trim excess fat from the steaks. In a heavy, resealable plastic bag combine the remaining ingredients.

Marinate the steaks for 1 hour at room temperature or up to 24 hours in the refrigerator. If refrigerating, bring steaks close to room temperature 1 hour before grilling for more even cooking.

Preheat the barbecue on HIGH. Brush grids with olive oil

Place the steaks  on the grill. Depending on how you want them cooked.

for 1" steaks...

  • Rare: 3 1/2 min per side. Total 7 min
  • Medium/rare: 4 min per side Total 8 min
  • Medium: 4 1/2 min per side Total 9 min
  • Well done: 5 min per side Total 10 min


If you want the diamond pattern, split the total times (above) into 4, place the steaks on a angle, cook for 1/4 of the time, turn over for 1/4 of the time, then turn back again, but this time place at 90 deg to the existing lines to get the diamond pattern, for 1/4 of the time and then turn again for the last 1/4 of the time.
