Is Evaporative Cooling Really Cool?

Yes indeed. A very economical method of cooling as well, with running costs substantially below that of Refrigerative aircon.

How does evaporative cooling work

A pump circulates water from the reservoir on to a cooling pad, which in turn becomes very wet. A fan draws air from outside the unit and forces it through the pad it is cooled by evaporation. The key to effective cooling is ensuring that each of the cooling pads is completely saturated at all times during operation

How do I use Portable evaporative cooling

Firstly position the portable evaporative unit near a window, and then fill it with water. Open the window that the unit is near (minimum opening of 15cm) and open another door or window or window else where in the room to create airflow. Turn the evaporative unit on and let fresh natural coolair flow through your room

will ice make it cooler

No, ice does not make the cooling process colder. Tap water should give you the same results as refrigerated water and crushed ice.

What windows do we need open?

You will require a window open in each room an air-conditioner is located. This must be opened sufficiently to exhaust all the air from the grill.

Can I use the airconditioner to clear my home of cooking smells or smoke?

Yes all you need is start the airconditioner and select ventilation plus open the windows and this will push the smells out of the house.

Can we precool the house by starting the airconditioner before we come home?

Yes provided your wall controller has that feature but you must leave the windows slightly open to get airfow otherwise you ma experience a very humid (moist) environment in the home until you open the windows.

Can we fully open the windows?

If you open the windows too much you could reduce the cooling effect because you may also let hot are in. Also on occassions of hot winds you may need to reduce the openings on the windward side of the house and increase the openings on the lee side to compensate.

Can we vary the amount of cooling in one area by decreasing other areas?

Yes you can close the window in a room and open the door so the cool air can exhaust through another area. We recommend you experiment so you can get the best out of your Airconditioner.

It's a very humid day/night and the airconditioner does not perform as I would normally expect - why?

An evaporative airconditioner uses moist air as a means of cooling so when the air is already humid then the cooling effect is reduced. In some situations it may prove more beneficial to switch the airconditioner to ventilation and on a high fan speed.

What should I do if water flows from my drain pipe when the airconditioner is turned off?

If your airconditioner has the auto drain valve feature then it will dump all the water out of the unit after a preset period of time (refer to your Owners Handbook ) and after the initial rush you will see a lesser amount flow as the filter pads drain. However, if the flow is constant for over an extended period of time and you are sure your pump has been turned off then turn off the water supply tap and contact Heatworks on 8362 3335 and ask for service dept.

What should I do if water continues to drip out of my drain pipe?

Firstly this situation is not unusual because after each time the airconditioner dumps water with its water management system there will be a period of drips until the pipe clears. Also after its rains you may see water dripping from the drain pipe

When should I clean my Airconditioner and what should I use?

We recommend that this is carried out at the end of the summer season and at least once per year. We also recommend you only use clean water for cleaning as it does not leave a residue or an odour. The recommended work is set out in your Owners Operating & Instruction manual. Contact our service dept to arrange a service on 8362 3335

When should we replace the filter pads?

With Aspen or Woodwool pads ( look like wood shavings ) you should expect to change these every 3 to 4 years, however, this can vary with water quality and local conditions. With Chilcel Pads ( look like honeycomb ) you should expect to change these every 7 to 8 years, however, this can vary with water quality and local conditions. WARNING With both of the above situations failure to replace filter pads when they are past their useful life may result in reduced efficiency / performance of the airconditioner or water carryover into the ductwork and/or electrics which may result in expensive damage.

Duted evaps?

Ducted evaporative air conditioning means you can have cool fresh air flowing freely to every room in your home, just like a fresh breeze blowing in from the sea.

The Advantages of Ducted Evaporative Air Conditioning:

  • Whole house cooling, no need to zone any rooms
  • Cheap to operate (approximately the cost of running
    a light bulb)
  • Circulates fresh clean air.
  • Designed to suit the hot, dry Australian climate

How Does Ducted Evaporative Air Conditioning Work?

The fan inside the cooling unit draws in warm outside air. As the air passes over water saturated pads it is cooled. The fan then blows this cooled air through a series of Flexible Ducting and outlets into every room in the house.  The hot air in the house is forced outside through open windows and doors.
